How to play

The drivers game usually takes 30-45 min, so make sure you set enough time aside to not rush.

Step 1 - SELECT DRIVERS

Separate your deck of cards into the six color categories and spread them out in front of your employee.

Have your employee choose up to three drivers from each category. Tell them to choose words they feel are strong drivers of their career. Set the cards you've selected into your driver pile and discard the rest. 

Go through the same process for all of the categories, gathering all the selected drivers into a single pile.

Step 2 - Shuffle and SELECt top Drivers

Now that your employee knows what drives them, it’s important to choose a limited number of drivers to focus on.

Shuffle their selected cards and lay out five as an initial Top 5-6 drivers. Put another card from their selected drivers on the table and let the employee decide to either keep the card by swapping it with one of the Top 5-6, or discard it if it doesn’t make the cut.

Repeat for the rest of their selected drivers.

Note: If two or more drivers mean more or less the same thing to an employee they can merge the two drivers together and leave the most meaningful driver on top.

Step 3 - rank CURRENT SATISFACTION

Place two pens on the table above and below the focused drivers. The top pen will indicate “my needs are met” with the bottom one indicated “my needs are not met”.

Ask them to move the cards up and down virtual sliders to show how well met each driver is in their current circumstances of their job.
